Native Communications Inc. (NCI) operates in Manitoba as a public broadcaster. NCI is an Indigenous service organization offering radio programming throughout Manitoba, designed for and by Indigenous people. NCI a non-partisan organization. NCI is in business to provide a service to our listeners and viewers. We are accountable to a Board of Directors made up of Indigenous people.

NACC – The Northern Association of Community Councils – This is where NCI was born.

The real true story of the early beginnings of NCI, is as follows:

In the early stages (1968 – 1970) of the organization, the NACC board of directors consisted of 12 board members, as well as the president of NACC. The board members consisted of  executive members of the three regions represented by NACC (Northern, Western & Eastern Regions)

The first executive of NACC consisted of:

President – Kip Thompson – Ilford, Manitoba

Northern Chairperson – Mayor Don McIvor – Wabowden, Manitoba

Eastern Chairperson  – Mayor Mayor Bill Bennet – Matheson Island

Western Chairman – Mayor Delphis Flamond – Camperville, Manitoba

In/or around 1970-71 the small group of people on the executive of the Northern Association of Community Council, changed slightly, and now consisted of :

Mayor Delphis Flamond – President – Camperville

Mayor Bill Bennet – Eastern Chairperson – Matheson Island

Mayor Wayne Flett – Northern Chairperson – Norway House, Manitoba

* Eastern Chairperson not known at this time.

NCI broadcasts 24 hours per day, 7 days a week

Your business or service will reach over 75 communities & 80% of the provinces total population, as NCI-FM is a provincial radio network. NCI-FM  is the only commercial radio station that is heard throughout Manitoba.

NCI- has over 56 radio FM frequencies across the province.

This newest executive at the time,  met with the sole purpose of how to overcome the difficulty of being able  to communicate with their communities, over such vast, and isolated distances. After a suggestion from the Northern Chairperson, and a whole lot of discussion, it was decided that the best way to solve this problem, was to create a radio network of our own, for our communities.

Shortly after that initial meeting of the executive, the Board of Directors met to ratify the plan, on how to accomplish that overwhelming goal. The Board of Directors from a number of communities. Cross Lake, Norway House, Sherridon, Matheson Island, Manigotagon, Camperville, Dallas, to name a few, decided yes that was the way to go, and we began.

Thus NCI was born. The rest is history.

Sponsorship occurs when a business makes a donations toward the cost of a charity’s activity or event, and in return the charity or event advertises or promotes the business brand, product, or services.

Sponsorship is an advantage and its fair market value is generally deducted from the amount of donation or receipting purposes.

You may want to consider a sponsorship, which can be used thereafter as a Tax Write-Off. One should check with their accountants for the best way to do that.

We can provide the contents, scripts, and text for each commercial. NCI can produce them.
